gameboys

i’m a massive fan of video game consoles in general but there’s something about handheld consoles that i’m obsessed with. retro tech, nostalgic games, buttons? how cool! once i saw some gameboy restoration videos on youtube i was hooked, i had to make this a little hobby. i ended up buying a little tool kit and some old consoles off ebay, as well as repairing a couple of my friends’ old gameboys that weren’t working.

i’ve done a few backlight mods – i installed a new display in an old friend’s gameboy color as a present, put a really cheap backlight in mine, and learned to solder to install a backlight in my gameboy pocket (which actually looks really good). but my main goal is to get a complete collection of all the gameboys in clear plastic shells with black buttons. i just think that would look really cool mounted on the wall or on a shelf some day. so far i’ve reshelled the pocket, color, advance, and sp so i still need to get ahold of an original gameboy and a micro (although i haven’t found clear shells for micros yet, at the very least i’d love to add one to my collection). maybe i’ll get a gameboy light one day but since they look so similar to the pocket and are relatively expensive i’m not too concerend with that.

this hobby is not too expensive to get into and it’s relatively easy, i highly recommend it!
